Recipe

Ingredients:
– 1 red onion, thinly sliced (a mandoline is preferred)
– ½ cup apple cider vinegar
– 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
– 1 ½ teaspoons salt
– 1 cup hot water (not boiling)

Instructions:
1. Slice the red onions as thin as possible
2. Stuff all the red onions in a sealable jar
3. In a measuring cup, combine apple cider vinegar, salt, sugar, and warm water. Stir to dissolve the sugar and salt
4. Pour the pickling mixture over the sliced onions, making sure they are immersed in the liquid, and let them set for an hour
5. After an hour, cover and store in the fridge for up to three weeks

There is room in our hearts for all the onions.

These are delish and I most often make them with just white vinegar. All onion and vinegar flavor combos– so good.

The worst thing about picked onions is the wait time for them to pickle.

Has anyone ever used white onions for this? I have 50lbs to eat. 😉

  10. Yup, did some the other week. Used the fine blade on the mandoline so they were like pickled onion floss. They’re basically a side dish for me instead of just a condiment lol

I like to pickle onions without any heat. It takes longer for them to get properly pickled, but they taste way better.

Also I have been using part white wine vinegar.
